New local boutique in town: Sans & Sans

Honestly, I've been trying to find a label that's affordable, stylish, timeless, yet not overly common. Shopping at Zara has been such a routine that I can actually spot outfits from the brand on the street. Ugh, overly common. Online shopping is a great convenience, but I've gotten my fair share of shocks, meaning the quality isn't worth the price you paid for, the outfit doesn't look good on you (why does everything look good on models??) or worse still, your product gets lost in the mail.

When I was introduced to Sans & Sans, who boasts pieces inspired from oriental heritage, I wondered if they would be more traditional or modern, and with Chinese tiles, blossom prints and Shikumen shop windows, I was expecting the former.

To my surprise, Sans & Sans balances both, and as a plus, are very affordably priced! I checked out their Marina Square store twice, because the polite sales staff informed me that new arrivals are in about twice a week. The range includes olive tailored pants, navy blue oversized shirts, bold prints on bright dresses, and also provide alteration services at additional costs. What I love the most about their clothes is that there's something unique about their design. For example, a white top with a black collar seems ordinary, but there's an added twist of sewn flowers all over the collar.

And their accessories! Those really blew me away. The level of detail, the versatility of designs, are all statement pieces waiting to be paired up with your choice of outfit. It was fun trying different outfits and matching them together!

I really loved this top which seems plain but actually has a retro like circle fabric which you can't really admire from the picture. A twist to the usual classy piece. And those shorts!! So versatile and can take you from day to night easily.

Korean style top and baroque printed black skirt for work! It fit perfectly :) Looking chic for work is always a mega plus for me.

Really wanted to get this dress as well but it was too big for me at the arms and also that slit in the middle? Opens up all the way. Probably have to get it sewn together to prevent any unwanted 'exposures' hahah.

Pieces at Sans & Sans will set you back from $59 - $139 easily for a top or a dress, but the quality, workmanship, style and compliments you'll get after wearing them are worth it :p

PS: This looks very pretty but when I signed my credit card receipt on the wood backing, my signature wasn't smooth. Example of pretty but not practical lol.

Launch of new korean online store Me-In

Not too long ago I was at Zafferano, Ocean Financial Centre's hidden gem with a gorgeous view of the city to witness the launch of Me-In, a new korean online fashion store!

I loved their collection which featured classy outfits with a little twist, suitable for work as well as play just by switching jackets!! Me-In also specially flew in korean models just for the fashion parade segment, and they're so pretty it's unbelievable. Some of the guys even bashfully approached them to take photos together! There was a short QnA section but to take part you had to drop your name card in the fishbowl, and of all days I ran out of mine. Urgh!!

Alright, without further ado - I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Here are my picks from their website:
Favourite work to play outfit :)

My favourite skirt from the whole collection! Psst: You can see a model wearing it in one of the pictures above too!

Sinderella Custom Made Wedding and Evening Heels

Recently, I was invited to the Starhub TVB Awards, courtesy of HTC. (Thank you HTC!) Having no idea  what to wear, I panicked and decided to get heels first. Instead of the heels matching the outfit, the outfit can match the heels too :p

By sheer luck, I was introduced to Sinderella at Orchard Delphi who does customised shoes for formal occasions! Orchard Delphi is a quiet mall opposite Forum, further down from Palais Renaissance and along Orchard Road. I like that the shop is in Orchard Delphi because that's where you can find a lot of wedding dress shops and it's a good escape from the hustle and bustle in town. I hate shopping in crowded places, sometimes I get so turned off I just leave even though there's a crazy sale.

Welcome to Sinderella
When I reached, I was taken aback because the shop was just so pretty!! With glistening evening heels, feathers, velvet seats, and a warm smile from the staff you know you're in good hands.

Sinderella specialises in customised footwear for ladies. Have an idea of what heels/flats you would like for a dinner, formal event or your wedding? Sinderella will custom make these for you and you'll receive your footwear in 3-4 weeks! Express services will be at additional charges.

Thanks Isabel for accompanying me! Without her help I might still be at the shop deciding on a design, pattern, accessory etc, there's just SO MUCH flexibility when it comes to custom made heels!!

I've summarized the different ways you can customise your heels at Sinderella so keep reading! ;)
  • Design

The first step would be to pick a design. Do you want strappy heels? Slip on heels or open toed heels? Get inspiration from the heels on display, don't worry if you don't like an aspect of the heel, you can change that later. Be it weddings, galas, birthdays, DnDs or special events, Sinderella  can help you create your dream pair of heels!

These heels with star shaped crystals stole my attention, especially with the unique v cut front! The other one looks like something a Disney Princess would wear. It's all about how you want to feel on your special day, right?

Going for the Starhub TVB Awards meant that it was going to be a red carpet event, so I picked an open toed pair with a simple motif! There are many designs to pick from, and if you head over to their website Sinderella, you can take a look for yourself!

PSST! 3 weeks later, after I collected my heels, I realised that the only tough consideration is that you're not 100% sure if the heels will cause discomfort or if they will fit. Mine were too big and even though I was provided with anti-slip paddings, they lost its stickiness pretty soon. Have to find super glue to permanently glue them on or drop by the shop again to see if I can get a strap added to them! Before getting them made, one size smaller was too small for me, and they don't have half sizes. Remember to make sure your feet fit when you try the sample heels they have in-store!!
  • Accessories

Want to add more 'bling' on your heels? No problem!

If you think that your heels are too plain or the accessory on the base design doesn't fancy you, there are cases full of accessories made of crystals and even pearls to pick from!! This heel caught my eye because of its pearls and feathers. Instant attention to your feet ;)

These heels will suit 'The Great Gatsby' theme if you're having a movie star Company DnD night!

For my heels, I did not add any additional accessories because... I didn't feel like it. Haha! Okay the true reason is because I wanted bling heels and too many accessories will steal the limelight from that.
If you pick accessories, rest assured that they are sewn on to your heels so they will not fall out!
  • Colour

Here's where you can experiment with colours! You can edit the strap colour, fabric texture (lace vs gloss), choose between a sparkly or non sparkly material and let your imagination run wild! Isabel and I were deciding between a black lace design for my heels or a satin one and eventually, satin won. As I hadn't decided on a dress, I didn't want to take a risk and go for something that might clash with my outfit, so I stuck to a safe choice - black.

 Timeless lace
Here's the black lace I was contemplating to add on top of the satin! You can remove the sample and place it on the heels if you need a stronger visual impact. That's what I did anyway!

Isabel really liked these heels because of the mesh sewn on detail, but it didn't look as nice in black!! If you're getting married soon you can consider this design, sooo gorgeous.
  •  Heel height

Of course, you can also pick the height of your heels, and the width of the base. I didn't want the tip to have too small a surface area (because it's harder to walk in for longer periods of time) so I picked the one in the middle. You can pick the material to wrap your heels, whether you want it to be the same colour as the body of your shoes or you can be daring and pick something totally different!
  • Heel design

Did anybody say BLING???? Yes you can add bling crystals to your heels!!!!  This is me trying to envision the final product :) You can ask for bling to be stuck on ANYWHERE so get creative and go wild!!

  • Additional details

Better not lose your other heel like Cinderella or your heels won't make sense on their own!

Some people add 'I Do' at the soles so it would look nicer in pictures! That's an idea for you. You can add crystals on the platform, along the rims etc, and if your budget allows it, pick Swarvoski Crystals because they are wayyyy more sparkly!

PSST! They also have a section for you to pick evening bags! Your bag should match your heels, after all.

It was a great experience, staff are attentive and will listen to your every detail and note them down. The hard part was over, and now I had to wait for my final product. *crosses fingers*

[3 weeks later]

The Finished Masterpiece!

Here's the final product of my heels that night! It's pretty isn't it? I had them swarovski-crystal'd individually, but some of the crystals fell out during the night. Guess crystals aren't that practical after all. Still no regrets though! :p Plus these crystals have a lifetime warranty so if they fall out you can head back to the shop to get them replaced :)

My final outfit for the night! Dress: Isabel's, Heels: Sinderella, Hair: Komachi Hair Cult Bag: Germany

I was going for a minimalist, chic look that was versatile and elegant. Painted my toes red to match!

*throws confetti* what do you think of 3.5 inch heels with bling! I like the little gathers by the flower and the open toed front is quite special. My last toe is completely hidden and gives the illusion of smaller feet :O

If you look closely at the crystals, you'll notice a star near the top! I wanted a star because my heels had to be original and have a dash of unpredictability incorporated in the design, and I think the pasting of each crystal must've taken quite a while to complete!

Oh, I also added 0.5inch platforms (front half) and padding at the balls of my feet so that my feet wouldn't feel so tired from standing and walking around a lot. These little details really add up!!

Be sure to check out their shop if you're looking for customised wedding heels, formal heels or just need an excuse to get a new pair. You can order online at their website below and they ship all over the world! ;)

Levi's® X Liberty London collection in Singapore

AN EXCLUSIVE WOMEN’S COLLECTION

Street fashionistas just received some thrilling news - Levi's denim meets Liberty's prints. This exclusive collaboration where US meets UK is every chick's new wardrobe essential. When I first received the email alert, I was excited, but skeptical. Wouldn't one be more striking over the other? How would they balance denim and prints when both are iconic in their own way?

Trucker vest that's rugged and cool... with a twist of prettiness

Boy, was I paranoid for nothing.

If you're wondering where you've heard the name Liberty, they're a department store at Regent Street, famed for their fabrics, textiles, but most of all, their prints. Always fashion-forward, interesting and versatile since the late 1800s, over 43,000 original designs originating from hand drawings are now in Liberty archives with hundreds of new designs added each year.

Liberty at Regent Street

Both Levi's and Liberty have built a legacy based on their own strength in craftsmanship. Levi's, being their classy American, effortlessly cool clothing, and Liberty with their artistic, bold, and creative styles. Together, they've created an exclusive range with two trademark prints - Carlin and Kerr Bandana, which are definitely one of the hottest things this season.

Carlin
Feminine, yet bold at the same time!

This design, named after the Levi’s® designer Jenny Carlin who worked on the collection, of signature painted garden flowers was inspired by a print from the 1970s, then redrawn with watercolour pencils. The result? A cheerful, colourful, and classic floral that I really adore. The juxtaposition with denim brings character, vibrancy, youth and tons of energy!

Kerr Bandana

The Kerr Bandana design is both floral and Pointillist ( technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of are applied in patterns to form an image) in appearance and is also inspired by a painting - but in the late 1940s. The Levi’s® and Liberty design teams originally redesigned the Kerr Bandana print as a bandana design with a border, and then took the elements to laser burn the pattern onto the denim. The denim is then uniquely finished using an innovative laser to apply the design to the indigo.
Here are a few of my favourite pieces from the collection -

Claire's Picks

Levi’s® x Liberty 501® Shorts

Levi's iconic 501® shorts has been revamped to feature an all-over Kerr Bandana laser print, and for the more observant, Carlin print exposed pockets. I like the subtle hint of playfulness, and would wear this for a casual day at the beach!

Levi’s® x Liberty High Rise Shorts

Charming half print high rise shorts that's fun and quirky

Levi’s® x Liberty Flouncy Skirt

I LOVE this skater skirt! It's eye catching, whimsical with its asymmetrical hem and screams non-conformist, originality and freshness. Pair this with sunglasses and you're ready to rock this look.

“Working with the world leader in denim has opened up our print house to a new global customer. We are honoured to be the first brand Levi’s® has partnered with on their women’s line and can’t wait to have the collection swinging in our store,”said Ed Burstell, Managing Director, Liberty London.

We can't wait for the collection to hit stores too!

Levi’s® x Liberty Duffle Bag

This duffle will instantly bring a dash of colour and perk up any outfit! I'd bring it every time I'm doing sports, having a duffel gym bag would be awesome to chuck my stuff inside!

Levi’s® x Liberty Bustier Bra Top

Last but not least, this mid-riff bustier is edgy, stylish and sure to turn admiring heads if you strut in confidence along the streets of Orchard Road. If only I had a nice, flat tummy to complement this! Sigh. I'll have to throw on a cardigan to create an illusion of a slimmer figure for this one!

The Levi’s® X Liberty London collection features 11 limited edition pieces ranging in prices from SGD$189.90 to SGD$399.90 and will be available at Levi’s® Lady’s stores (313@somerset #01-21,Bugis Junction #01-25/25A, Vivocity #01-191) from 28th June.

Be sure to check it out when it's released!

Levi's Spring Summer 2013 with Claire

If you take a stroll along Orchard road, or in fact, any part of  Singapore, you'll definitely come across at least 1 person wearing jeans, but have you ever wondered how they even came into existence?

Initially, Levi's jeans were made for miners, lumberjacks, cowboys and railway workers, because no other fabric at the time could withstand the rough conditions and wear and tear from the demands of their jobs. After a while, the first few jeans started to tear at points of strain (eg around the pockets), and that's when the copper rivets were introduced to increase hardiness and toughness, which created a revelation.

On May 20th, 1873, Levi Strauss and his business partner, Jacob Davis, received their US patent for their blue jeans, which is the official birth date of Levi's jeans. That's 140 years of tradition and heritage that's still surviving today!

Around the 1950's and 1980's, jeans were worn by youth subcultures like rockers and hippies, which took off and spread like wildfire.

One of the advertisements Levi's put out in the past

Soon after, Levi's began designing other clothing items like shirts, shoes, wallets, watches, and today, we see Levi's as one of the most respected, influential, and essential fashion powerhouses in the world.

Here are the top 3 reasons why I love Levi's-

1) Sexy, versatile and classy - Gotta love them jeans

“Denim is one of the world’s oldest fabrics, yet it remains eternally young.”
It's true. There's just something about denim, the colour, the shade of blue, the material, that just makes ANYONE wearing it, look much younger than they actually are.

Really brings out the curves in you, if you know what I mean ;)

The first pair of jeans that caught my eye from the Spring/Summer collection were these ombre blue skinny jeans, that fit me like a charm. I love how it transitions from dark blue to light blue naturally, and how it fits my hips perfectly, without leaving any gaps!

TIP: Some jeans might feel tight but remember, if they are slightly stretchy, they will expand upon washing!

One of the great advantages that Levi's has is their wide range of jeans. From straight cuts to skinnies to bootcut, there's something for every preference and you'll be able to find jeans that fit your body shape.

Wearing the right fit of jeans is very important because it can help make your legs look longer, slimmer and sexier! The Levi's staff at the stores are very friendly and will help you find the jeans you so deserve ;)

Plus, their jeans are soo comfortable! I love how I can throw on a pair of jeans and a random t-shirt and still look dressed for the day, especially when I'm out shopping :) As you can tell, I'm loving the ombre look, especially this yellow Levi's Knot Front Tee in Aspen Gold Dip Dye for a casual summer feel. Did you know that each shirt was individually dip dyed? That's Levi's commitment to quality!

You could even throw your boyfriend's tee on and still look presentable and chic! These girly coral pink wedges will put you in a spring mood for sure.

In addition, with the Great Singapore sale now on, you can enjoy huuuge discounts on clothes and accessories!!

The other pair of jeans that caught my eye is this gorgeous Demi curve. On the outside, it looks white with tinted pink. I was curious about the effect, and found out that Levi's achieved this by dying the inner layer pink, which gives the outer layer an illusion of light pink. Pretty cool, eh?

Also found this Watercolour Stripe Tank Top in Diablo Night, which had pretty florals and a light stripe print . I liked the high-low hem, the only qualm was that this was slightly baggy for me at the arm holes, I only wish Levi's brought in XXS sizes because, let's be truthful here, the average Singaporean girl is smaller than the average American girl. :X

Together, this feminine look is presentable and likeable, plus the cotton is lightweight so heat doesn't get absorbed by the fabric. You can also wear these indoors when it's rainy or when the air-conditioning is too cold, it's important to keep your legs warm!

2) Stylish - for girly dates

Not only does Levi's design jeans, but they also also carry dresses and skirts! I picked the Eyelet dress in Cloud dancer (where do they come up with these cute names for all the colours??), grabbed a brown belt, threw on a denim vest (in case you're cold indoors) and now you're ready to head on that date!

Phase 1: Wah you're so annoying and insensitive, how could you say such a thing?!

Phase 2: Okay la, at least you have good dress sense, top to toe in Levi's, like me.

Phase 3: Teeheehee - you're actually quite funny.

Phase 4: aaaand he gets the girl!

*Disclaimer: May not happen IRL.

Now, Levi's target market isn't just for cowboys or miners, they're up to date with the latest fashion trends and styles. Check out the unique details on the dress and be sure to check out their newest arrivals for more designs!

3) Casual - for a hot day or a trip to the beach
Next, I picked an outfit to hit the beach with, or for a particularly hot day in Singapore. Yellow is a great colour for summer as the bright colour to freshens you up and makes you look energetic!

I thought this was an ordinary top until I realised my back felt cold indoors. It actually opens! (Note the slit)
I paired this with the popular Superstretch Allover Print Shortie Shorts in Blue Sky, with an adorable graphic print to look less ordinary and yet not gaudy!

Perfect for the beach with your bikini under! ;)
If you're not such a big fan of the slit, this gorgeous multi-coloured top paired with the yellow summer shorts (which is sold out online in US) helps you show off your confidence and style!
Notice how your legs look longer and appear taller? I loooove that the length of the shorts isn't TOO short to expose your buttcheeks, and neither is it TOO long to reduce the effect of longer legs. Wouldn't you agree?
I've learnt so much about the history and tradition of denim and jeans through this campaign and I'd like to thank Levi's and OMY for this amazing opportunity!

A shoutout especially to the staff at Levi's Raffles City Shopping Centre that endured my camwhoring for several hours hahah and entertained my curious questions.
